A term used for fans of much older anime, such as Ghost in the Shell, Cyber City, Bubblegum Crisis 2032, Dominion Tank Police etc is "Cyber Punk" - that's the only one I can think of myself!

Isn't 'cyber punk' a term to describe that type of anime, rather than the fans?

I don't use any special terms. Not even 'otaku', because it's...well...lame. At most I refer to anime geeks - which is an affectionate term, because everybody loves geeks. :-p

Yeah, but it's technically an insult. And I prefer not to insult my anime friends. ¬_¬

Kind of, but I always think of myself as a Cyber Punk rather than an Otaku, as I've been into anime for over 13 years, although technically I am an Otaku - obsessive fan Laughing

It's Ichitard (just like Narutard for Naruto), but that's an insult I think, since it is made up of Ichigo and retard...

While it's true that otaku is not a very flattery term in japanese, it has been sort of reinvindicated here in the west, so... we can call ourselves whichever way we like and not worry about it. Smile

I've always found it amusing that people tend to place a negative or differential connotation to anime watchers. Its from japan so it should be segregated, right? People don't give names to those who watch US created animation. Seems that if its not mainstream its gotta be bad/different.
