I watched the whole series... The first one had the exchange student and he was on the internet right?

I dont think Band Geeks are as extreme as Otaku's. The Band geeks post pictures of REAL people on their walls and stuff, but the Otaku's have like pictures of cartoons everywhere. They even have collectables and stuff while band geeks could have an instrument where they learn to play like the stars they adore.

But good point... Band geeks can play their instruments and look up to real people. So i guess unless the otaku can draw, it's almost pointless comparing them at this point?

well, most otaku's have some drawing skills. you cant stare at manga/anime that long and still suck at drawing. like if you read alot of books, eventually you will be good at writing.

band geeks and otakus are actually, alot alike, its both fan worship. just one worships anime characters, which i think is nerdier than worhipping actual people.

I still think that Otakus are more extreme because sometimes they camp outside stores for some anime.manga new releases.

some of you guys are being really stereotypical of otakus. yeah, theyre freaks, but not all of them are super extremists.

i would have to say otaku's are nerdier, knowing how to play an instrument is cooler than knowing alot of manga and animes in my mind, plus alot of otaku's dont socialize alot, at least band geeks have band members to talk to.

i have a friend that wasnt very popular with people but then when he did a session with his group, people pretty much found him cool, especially since he was really good with drums.

Stereotypically, otakus are nerdier. I see nothing wrong with being into either hobby, though.

personally, i think that otakus are nerdier, mainly because it is a hobby that offers less career paths one the person leaves high school. sure, they could become an anime reviewer or something, but obsessing over anime/manga gives them no special skills. on the other hand, obsessing over band allows them to play an instrument well (theoretically). at the very least, they'll be able to read music, which could be used to play some other instrument or help their singing.
