Okay, I got my hands on a 1/100 scale model of Destiny Gundam. Unassembled of course. Now, I previously made a gundam model before, but it sucked since I never used any paint or the pen to line the lines. Now, I want to make it look as kick butt as it can, but I've never gone into the painting part of modeling before. What exactly do I need?
I know I need a pen of sorts to line the seams of the Gundam, and also some spray paint according to the colors of the model. Anything else I need? And are there any tutorials or help links?
lol its been ages since i last made a model.
lol x 2 i have that model too.
heres what i did.
take ur time with models.
theres no rush to have to built quickly. u only forget things and u screw up twice as much.
it looks good without paint, but not without the lines.
painting is more for really really experienced modellers.
not to mention, painting makes the model heavier and drastically impairs its poseablility.
pro modellers only paint their models because they already have a pose they want the model to remain in forever. after they paint it they never touch it again.
i like to play with my models occasionally.
if u want it to look good within ur skills, get the lining pen. and maybe a little paint for some of the small details that the original plastic injection couldnt get.
otherwise, start small, paint small models/ small areas on models where it wont matter if u screw up and move to bigger and bigger from there.
ive been building models for about 3 - 4 years and i can but i dont paint because i dont want to make mistakes.
as for assembly, take it slow.
i only ever use:
-sprue cutters,
-model knife, about 2 different ones
-cotton tips
-eraser for the lines
thats about all that i use when i make models.
a knife is like a file, but gives a smoother finish.
cottom tips and the eraser for removing mistakes with the lining marker.
if theres anything u wanna ask, or if i remember anything ill let ya know via this thread.
happy modelling :] _________________ [img:567:138:151453bb6b]http://www.anime-source.com/upload/uploadFiles/wahagifsda.gif[/img:151453bb6b]

You'll probably want the following: air brush, compressor, 0 or 00 brush, paint as required, model glue, sand paper, knife
Everything except for the compressor will be pretty cheap, you don't really need a $300 airbrush, just go with a cheapie until you're good at it and wish to spend money.
Compressor I have no suggestions, i was lucky enough to already have one available to me. You probably don't want to get those air cans though... I used one of those before, maybe its because of my cheapie airbrush, but the damn thing practically froze my thumb off.
For paint, go with "Gunze Sangyo Aqueous Hobby Color" because of this simple reason: if you screw up, you can just dip the whole part in hot water, and the paint will desolve. Another advantage is you can just soak your airbrush in hotwater afterwards, saving you cost on thinner.
Speaking of thinner, whatever you do, DO NOT soak model pieces in thinner as this will turn them brittle.
For the brush, pick out one that's sharp-looking, if its got loose hair going all over the place, look for another one.
The other stuff you probably won't really need unless you're obsessed with getting rid of the joint lines that'll appear when you snap pieces together. How you'll do that though, is entirely up to you, just slap some glue on two pieces, wait til it dries, then sandpaper / scrape / file it until it is smooth I suppose... I'm not all that good at this myself.
Now actually painting it, well... I would suggest painting over everything. If you have a white part, and it is suppose to be white, well who cares, splash some white paint on it anyway. Why? The jar of white paint in your hot little hands, its probably a different white to what is on the model piece itself; when you put some white paint on say... a blue piece, that white will look slightly different to the original plastic white. (not to mention, it'll have a different texture all together.)
Just spray the main colour onto all the pieces you have, then add the minor details in later... if you want to add weathering effects, feel free, but personally, I haven't worked out how to do that yet...
Finally, if you don't have access to airbrush / compressor, and would like to paint the whole thing using a paint brush, may God have mercy on your soul.
*The above was a rough guide writen at 1:00 AM, if that made no sense what so ever, refer to www.fuckinggoogleit.com *
PS: re. spray paint, I'm not sure if you can get water-based ones, but if you can, do so. Enamal paint is a pain to use...

This is pretty nostalgic..
When i was in my High School days i used to collect GWing Models, i had them all, im not much of a very intricate collector though, what i eman is, im not talented in enhancing my models..
Its kinda sad that i had to sell them to a friend because of financial problems and such..
But anyways i hope you dont end up like me..
Keep it up!
