*Sigh* - all over again?
Now and Then, Here and There - some very powerful stuff, particularly wrt Sarah (esp. when she tries to abort herself) and the children made to fight in the war. (I wasn't entirely convinced by Sarah's plight at times, though.)
Grave of the Fireflies - this didn't really move me in the same overpowering way as the series above, but it did make me feel meloncholy throughout. It was a sad and powerful film, but in a wonderfully subtle way. I suppose it applied a constant gentle pressure instead of suddenly jerking at the heartstrings at chosen climactic moments. I think this reflects the nature of what a long war is all about. You wake up, deal with everyday life, then go to bed.
Something that frustrated me as I watched the film is that they're in pretty hard times and yet it's entirely their own fault, although nobody ever says, or thinks it. They've brought it on themselves and yet they're in denial. Indeed, the children die, not because of an air raid, and not even because there's no food available, but because of the selfishness of the others around them who aren't willing to take responsibility for them would rather pretend that they aren't really there. And the children's own struggle is but one of many; all equally insignificant. It almost seems to me like a reflection on the Japanese entire attitude towards the war both then and now, which I have to admit I find frustrating. I get the impression that they'd rather just forget that it ever happened instead of facing up and admitting their wrongdoing (if indeed they think they did anything wrong). I don't suppose the writer himself sought to make that point, though.
Millenium Actress - has some memorable moments. Particularly heartwrenching for me is when Chiyoko breaks down because she didn't even learn his name. |

For myself... off the top of my head.
It would be
Kanon
Hoshi no Koe
Grave of the Fireflies
2 episodes from Fruits Basket =P
Ayashi no Ceres
Kimi Ga Nozomu Eien (only a couple eps in the series)
Kenshin 1st OAV (I would say i was shocked more than sad.. but I thought the ending was done very well.) |

Kimi Ga, some parts in the Kenshin Ova, one ep in Naruto (yeah yeah... what can i say?) and a couple in Gseed.
Kimi Ga had me depressed throughout most of it though, so it wins this one _________________ [IMG:508:164:6c8e3c695e]http://i130.photobucket.com/albums/p252/inqArk/Original_sig.jpg[/img:6c8e3c695e] |

I know. The animation and story was so poor I would uncontrollably go into fits of crying. _________________ Ask me a question, and I will answer to you with my fists of fury!1!1!!1!!!! |
