Kana Little Sister is a hentai game that is INCREDIBLY SAD. Very slow moving game but lots of character development i guess, if you play it right it you can get a very sad story. _________________

| Grave of the fireflies is definitely one well made... yet sad sad story. I loved how it was presented though it left me depressed in the end with just a tinge of joy. I imagine it's what happened during that era and what may have happened. It's a mind opener. For those who are so into the wars nowadays i suggest you watch this. It may make you realize a thing or two how useless war all is. |

1 anime that really surprised me was chrno crusade. first 19 episodes were only spattered with tiny tragic events and the overall theme was so happy and lively that you instantly fall in love with the characters. But in the final 5 episodes tragedy after tragedy, each 10 times as bad as the previous(im not gonna spoil it by telling u what happened), and it really unexpectedly turned into a very tragic anime n in the last episode i finally failed to hold my tears in. even full moon only came very close but i still held it in...(onli juz tho cuz i managed to predict echi was dead be4 it happened) i guess its really because of the happy pace it set in the first part to make you complacent and think that this anime was heading towards a happy ending and once the tragedies hit it really had a big effect
overall i think chrno crusade is a must watch: great pacing, storyline, characters
side note for the non-religious: the prophecies of fatima aion rants about in chrno crusade do really exist |

|
|
Well, I actually tend to watch quite a lot of really depressing anime I've found. I've seen just about everything recommended here.
For me, the real tearjerkers are depressing anime that interspurses moments of true happiness between everything. This just makes the horrible horrible things going on even worse and much harder to take.
Grave of the Fireflies is obviously on this list. Geez, I bawled like a baby when I first saw this. It was not the fact that they were dying that got to me, it was the fact that they were basically happy while they were dying. That shallow happiness broke me.
Saishuu Heiki Kanojo (ya'll call it Saikano here) is another anime that broke me. At the end of ep. 10, my fansubbed copy actually said to stop watching it if you wanted any sort of happy ending. Well, ep. 10 isnt exactly buttlerflies and roses. I rarely see an anime that touches me in the way this one did. Deeply deeply emotional.
Full Moon wo Sagashite, ya'll have already pinpointed the episode that is truly the tearjerker. From what I hear, the manga even drive it more into the heart.
Please Save my Earth brought me to tears. Maybe it was because I identified with the characters, maybe it was something else. Rin/Shion is a truly tragic character and how they basically fight each other (internal battle obviously) is heart wrenching. In all honesty it is the ending theme, Moments Memory that gets me every single time. It sums up both the series and the anime perfectly.
I am watching Kimi ga Nozomu Eien right now and so far I havn't cried, but I can see how its going to make me get broken pretty soon. Based on the synopsis, I had no idea it would be as good as it is so far. I am glad I read the reviews.
There were a few moments in Cowboy Bebop that really got to me. Admitedly, it didn't bring me to tears but "Speak like a Child" was very touching I thought. You don't quite see how impactful it is til the end though. This is my favorite episode of the series.
Key the Metal Idol I found to be tragic. The story is pervaded by death, denial and corruption. One of the main characters dies. I found this to be a very heart-touching anime.
There are many other series that are depressing, though not quite gut-wretching. These would probably be my tops on the list. |
