Yeah, during time compression Squall goes back to the Orphanage to find a defeated Ultimecia talking to Edea. Edea doesn't wish for Ultimecia's powers to be passed onto one of her "children" so she takes them instead. Ultimecia disappears and Squall approaches Edea, he tells her all about SeeD and then some more stuff happens.
Now I'm not sure if I got the scene wrong ( movements and such ) but that is basically what happens.

Cloud is just a regular soilder he is not even a first class like zack.
SeeD are the most powerful solder mercernary in the game which squall was.
How can you say cloud made it in soilder.
You can compare first class soilder and a SeeD, but not cloud nada he is just a regular soilder.
I don't think that subzero really understand the story of eight.
The reason quistice was his captain is becasue he was not a seeD yet at that time. Edea never berayed him a future sorceress possesed her and took over her. So she and her husband created SeeD just incase this happens when they created the garden. Seeds jobs were to emliminate evil sorceress. Squall he hides his feeling alot in the game not telling them if he is troubled or happy, but he is not what you think he is. He just don't want to loose any one close to him. if you played the game you can tell why he is like this. When he was small he lost Ellone who was the only person he new and loved she was like a big sister to him. He had no one else to looked up to. How would you feel if you don't have a mother and a father who never knew about you like laguna left you and all you have was a sister like figure like Ellone and then she left you. Your life will be like hell. Thats what i believe he is they way he is until someone can come and understands him.
I have played both game twice. What i'm comparing is real life situation than a game situation.
Yes i have the dvd movie of AC when it came out in sept. and have the final fantasy series 4-9.
i played all of them and know them, but when comparing cloud and squall who will win i have to say squall even could is great too.
To me i think that zack is better than cloud, but since cloud is the main character they will have to perserve him. As i see it he has a lot of luck on his side. If not sephroph would have killed him too.

Reis_wind I think you not so clear with materia combination. If you took a look carefully the combination you'll know that Ruby weapon can't swallow them instead received heavy damages many times and then just use items to beat it* if lazy to play seriously* . Is not hard to beat if you'd have good combination materias.

Cloud not a great soldier but he more powerful than Zack after all. He have macro-energy. SO even 1st class SeeD like Squal having a BIG trouble to fight with.
Squall also have his own power and yeah like all you say Squall is affraid to lose anyone close to him and that why he lone wolf...maybe just awhile.
He is good, his gunblade also will trouble a lot to Cloud. So if they two were really fight is gonna be unforgetable match we even see but what SE will say?....

Yeah for the beginnig of couse Zack more better than Cloud because Cloud still not full awaken his power. Cloud didn't win all just by luck, he also shown his full strength to defeat his enemy.

Like you say Reis-san, the fair battle is just use their own sword.
Anyway Tidus is weak compare to both them right but I like his way, easygoing, simple, open minded and Big Meanie.....plus slowpokes (~.~0).
But I do more like Tidus>Cloud>Squall because he not cool so he easy to be friend and not so hard to understand aabout him.

Cloud and Squall are both good in their own ways.
No matter how the battle goes if it ever happends. The outcome would not change me if either win or loose they both are great in their own respectful way.
The two coolest and most controversal character when coming to deciding who win or loose.
They are just game characters and thats the down fall of this because they don't have their own free will unlike real people. So the creater who created them choses who win or loose.
So if it happends that they made Cloud win I don't want people to say Squall sucks. Or if Squall win I don't want to hear that Cloud sucks either.

that is why I says that he is more depend to his friend than cloud...and actually you said your self that he is really depend on his friend...
and superior is still superior... quistis is still upper clas than him...

live is the prove of strong...because as long you live you will keep growing and be more stronger than before...
because zack knows cloud's ability that is why he sacrifce him self to help cloud...and by that time cloud is only a puppet controlled by jenova...

Cloud was a very low, low level SOLDIER. Kind of like a grunt. Sure he was mako enhanced, but still, during his time as a SOLDIER, he never reached the level of Sephiroth or Zack. He left ShinRa with Zack because of the Nibelheim incident involving Sephiroth... guess they didn't want to be involved in the corruption.

Cloud wasn't just exposed to Mako, that's an understatement... he was ODed and poisoned by it. Now that just sucks for him, being poisoned and all. Made his mind completely insane... it is surprising he lived through poisoning like that.
That's +1 for Cloud.

all soldier has to be exposed to mako energy first before becoming a soldier that is the first time he got exposed/poison (and then he and zack break through from nebelheim)
second is when all the weapon are release to the world and cloud are being suck into the mako...
I understand all people oppinion and I respect that... I'm sory if all my previous post offend you all. t just I like cloud that really much...
but still I will defend cloud!!

and lastly the reason that squall doesnt have any movie yet is because the different between cloud and squall... it is the real proof for the greatness of cloud than squall

The reason they made an FF7 movie rather than FF8 movie, was because it had a very large fan base, and people were more familar with FF7 than FF8. FF7 got more recognition for being revolutionary since it was the first 3d RPG ever created on the PSone. So it had nothing to do with the greatness of Cloud. <.<;
One of the main reason why FF8 wasn't made into movie was also because Tetsuya Nomura (pretty much the a father of the Final Fantasy series, Kindom Hearts, and plenty of other great games like Parasite Eve) hated FF8 also. If you want me to find the quote, I will (maybe) in another time. I hope I would be able to find it since the interview was years ago. But yes, FF7 is where the fans are, where the money are, and that's why you're seeing a lot of games that are FF7 related.
And I'm not sure if you guys should include Kingdom Hearts as one of the factors why Cloud is better than Squall or vice versa. I think the system design was personally biased. Squall was pretty hard to fight against while he was partnered up with Yuffi. But I noticed that his movements are much slower when he's partnered up with Cloud. Maybe it's because they needed the Hades Cup more player friendly and be beaten under 25:00. But then again... Squall's attacks are much harder to deflect and you get more tech points from attacking Cloud... So, maybe forget what I just said xD. I'll just wait for their bankai to come out. >.>;

Sorry, I did attempt to look for the interview but no luck IIRC, he didn't like it the same reason as the other FF fans: junction and draw system. He said it was stupid and too complex. He also said that the story was okay and could have been better. And if I remember right, he liked FF9 the most and FF7 second.
Note that this is only from my recollection. I would like to find the source I read this from to confirm myself too. Come to think of it.. I think I stumbled across this when I was looking for the information about FFX level up/sphere grid system. That just gives me another clue to my search.

I think me too read the interview... but actually can't remember it...it's been so long since I read it...
I think it maybe in the Final Fantasy X guide book or final fantasy 9 guide book... have you search there?
