Note: Persocon = Japanese "word" for "Personal Computer"
So yes, it's about a guy and his love for his computer.
But it's not bad at all. One of the better anime from 2002. |

Chobits... ... chii... chii...
Well, like what the others have posted, Chobits revolves around a guy who finds a Persocon (think PDA with arms and legs) but she is not any ordinary persocon......
Personally Chobits didn't really impressed me, but it is still a must see for all anime lovers. If you are into comedy and fanservice, this is one series you don't want to miss. |

Chobits in not a robot.
The basic of the word is that computers now that the form of humans, they aren't robots so much as actual PCs as you use them to browse the web, play games and such. But naturally people fall in love with them as they look perfect.
It is not hentai and is a good series, I'd recommend it. |

I don't think chobits is an ecchi show. The underlying themes and story is MUCH more serious than pantsu. It just that since Chii's a "girl" that doesn't know anything, it's kinda hard for farmboy Hideki to teach her those type of things. It's all part of the light hearted fun that precedes the deeper plot if you ask me.
And it's definitely not hentai. Where did that come from. |

Chobits is far deeper than that...
You can read only its main story, which, as all the folks said, is a sci-fi romance, or you can catch all its critique to the massified individualism that's upon japanese society (We caqn say that we western people suffer from it, too)...
I thought it was a clever way to try to warn young folk about the dangers of extreme individualism through this interesting media that's the manga... So that people stop "going out" with their comps, instead of with real people... Ad to think it was released in mid 90's...
[and YES, I haven't watched the anime, but I've read all the manga]
So, watch it, read it, and make your own conclusions about Chobits. _________________ De que vale tanto orgulho | Is it worth so much pride

@Deedark:
I think Chobits is a critique on the self-absorbed alienation from society rather than individualism. Individualism broadly speaking means independence from others, but not the type of isolation from society which Chobits criticizes.
It is much of a critical look of our world today in which technology has removed some of the time-tested traditions that bind humanity together, i.e. sloppy emails replacing an emotion-filled hand written letter, or microwaves removing the need of a dedicated time to craft a wonderful dish. We become absorbed in ourselves, not of the desire to become independent but rather simply because we now live in a society in which our own inventions has begun to slowly erode the interpersonal bonds that make us human.
Of course, I could be reading WAY too much into this.
Chobits is great. Go watch it for fun. |
