Why are you pinning "the end of the world" only on US culture? I guess all the other countries in the world would handle their drunken teens and children just fine, but the US would just fall to pieces, being so weak-minded and easily led astray and all. _________________ [IMG:240:120:b0be737b07]http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v195/Alexiel-sama/misuzudies.gif[/img:b0be737b07]

Better question, is... does a legal drinking age really prevents kids from drinking ? You should ask yourself that question. It's illegal to purchase alcohol, not to drink it. If at 16 you take a glass of wine, are you depraved ?
Heck, even if legal is 18 here (take notice that this is not the same for all province/state/country which shows the "quality of such laws), I could enter bar at 15. Okay I look older, but I think many, if not most people, already went into a bar before they were allowed by the law (around here at least). |

You know, the US will fall regardless of whether or not we lower the drinking age, especiially with Bush running it the way he is. Nobody likes us anymore. I should move to Canada...
I don't really think Southern California is subject to the drinking age. Most of us can just go to Mexico when we please and just get wasted there. Not to mention any of the parties at your local university (I prefer SDSU and UCI, but that's just me). To tell you the truth though, after turning 21 and being able to legally drink, I find myself drinking less.
So go ahead lower the drinking age. Nothing much is going to change. And while you're at it, legalize marijuana! Shoot, they're already doing it in Denver. Why not any SoCal cities? Damn you Arnold! |

If kids wanted alcohol they could easily get it. The fact is kids could drink but actually choose not to. Making it legal would make the appeal of drinking even worse.
Drunk kids can't do shit, there would be no chaos instead there would be shitfaced kids. |

Now its a well know fact that noone can hold their alkie like the brits. We're practically breastfed Guiness (Thats proper beer btw, not like that budweisser water you guys get). If Americans had the same drinking age as the UK then nothing would ever get done, lets face it. The intervening years are there for a reason- to let US citizens get used to alcohol and build up a metabolism for it!
Afet all, they are mostly decended from the puritanical brits who left as political refugess (Yup, America is a nation of 100% political refugess from around the world... But I digress) so obviously they're decended from the Brits who couldn't hold their drink.
At least thats my theory.
P.S. As an aside, budweisser, the US's main exported beer, is named after a mid Eurpean family beer. They eventually tried to buy the original, Budvar, but the nation decided to make the company a national treasure to stop them. And it tastes so much better. |

I doubt it.......Alcohol is sort of for depreessed people
Kids are just too happy with their lives to take any sort of drug |
NOT true...lol
cos u see like 10 yr old on crack and pot
its not cool....lol |
Crack and pot is a physical addiction....Their bodies develop a dependence on the drug. Alcohol is a mental addiction....their minds depend on it to suppress depressing feelings...kinda ironic..a depressant supressing depression.
But kids aren't depressed so they never will take drugs like XTC or alcohol.
At least thats what I learnt from my observations.... _________________ [img:309:200:9b3695521e]http://img69.imageshack.us/img69/8583/dobedobedojs0.jpg[/img:9b3695521e] |

That's for the USA (source : Wikipedia).
Anyways, here in Canada, legal drinking age is 18 in my province. I challenge any brits any time to drink some fine beer... And I'm not talking about a Guiness (tastes like cold medecine gone bad), but some fine red ale.
Around here, beer are more inspired by Germany (of course you can find loads of Bud, Molson and Labatts products), but you can also find some really tasty beers.
In the end : Cheers for all who can enjoy a little drink every now and then. I salute you and wish you a fine evening. |
