I can't believe another person knows abou the jackie chan movie based on city hunter. I loved that movie. It had the coolest Street Fighter Parody I ever saw. _________________ Go Gitaroo-Man, go fight the mighty piano ships with your mighty Guitar AXE!
A sequel to City Hunter, i can`t believe they make something like this *happy*. But i don`t like the Art... . But i will watch it, because is seems to be interesting and it`s a sequel to City Hunter ^^.
No, Miki does not appear in Angel Heart. I remembered she was already dead in City Hunter? (read the City Hunter manga more than a decade ago so memories fading)
The storyline revolves more on family values, friendship etc, though a little adult-themed (light-hearted ones) is still present once in a while (else it will not be Ryu already right?).

The only reason it was marked as an alternative universe was because the creator didnt want the anger of the fanboys on him for killing off
A correction there, Angel Heart is NOT a follow up on city hunter.(the author sait it himself)
Its a totally new story using some of the City Hunter's character and plot (like how umibozu is blind, which is caused by ryo back in City Hunter)
The Cat Eye cafe actually belongs to Miki, but here in Angel Heart it is be long to umibozu, and no Miki appearance.

A correction there, Angel Heart is NOT a follow up on city hunter.
Sure, it's a spinoff. Doesn't make much of a difference... Same characters, same personalities. As Chewyli said, the mangaka just doesn't want to piss people off for playing around with the City Hunter characters in a new way.
Anyway, the City Hunter-style bits here and there (mostly Ryo's all-famous mokkori acts) are still fun, but the heart transplant idea is utterly ridiculous. And even if I can suspend disbelief for a second, the whole thing is a pretty boring excuse for a drama. Though I guess it might work for some people who have no knowledge whatsoever of the workings of the human body or at least can pretend there's some special occult explanation. At least it sounds better than if it was called, say, Angel Brain, though that would make a whole lot more sense.
Personally, I'll still watch it as a fan of City Hunter. At least I can get laughs both from its ridiculousness as well as the intended comedy.
Btw I've also watched the live-action City Hunter movie; it's definitely got some really great laughs, even if it's very different from the original. _________________ Is that the best you can do, you pansies?
You dont have to watch city hunter to watch angel heart. But watching the CH series u can get a better idea of kaori and ryo's relationship. CH was definitely one of my favorites, and I'm so glad the voice actors returned to do angel heart. I dotn think anyone other than AKira Kamiya can do Ryo Saeba.
Anyways when I first saw the Angel Heart manga, I was glad to see Saeba return, I mean its been 15 years since the last CH rolled out. The only thing I dont like is the art. I'm a fan of the old school art style of Tsukasa Hojo. But I guess I'll keep watching and reading Angel Heart
I keep watching this thing due to my good memories from City Hunter, but I'm really starting to have second thoughts about it. Most of what made Hojo's past works entertaining has been taken out and replaced with unbelievably corny melodrama.
The last two episodes were especially disastrous - pretty much a typical "little girl wants to find her father" City Hunter story without the humor. Well, actually I DID laugh, but definitely not where I was supposed to
(Ryo having an emotional chat with Kaori's heart = instant classic).
It was more of a "why am I still watching this?" laugh.
This show is taking itself way too seriously for the ridiculous crap it really is. _________________ Is that the best you can do, you pansies?
