So far otome seems pretty interesting. i have to say that i really enjoyed mai-hime so im expecting a lot from otome. Cant wait to see where this series goes.
I didn't really watch the orginal Mai-HiME, so i prolly rather have a alter universe instead of a sequel, especially becuase i'm only half way through downloading the first one via Bit torrent.
I love the vehcile with the opening doors (Wasn't that was first seen in Jurrasic Park, the poacher's vehicles?)
Anyway, back on the fansubs. i downloaded doremi, bcause i thought LIME was a little tad slow, (As shown by Ichigo 100% and Amideayeo(sp)) Don't you think LIME is covering way too many animes?
I feared that the same case of their slowness might happen repreat, so i chose Doremi. Guys give the newer subs a little time to prefect thier skills, it's not like complaining would do anything good, ever since THEY are the one doing the subs, we may never feel their pain.
Shizuru in the ending scene totally rocked, it's now my background. Like they say, she looks way too much like Strike Freedom.

I believe LIME did a better subs then DOREMI... although it may be slow... I'm downloading both fansubs and see which one i prefer... 98% more to completion for LIME's...
Yea... Shizuru indeed rocks... but compare that with Strike Freedom... hehe... btw, is it me or the SLAVE in Otome reminds me of EVA? _________________ [img:800:198:5c85a10b1b]http://img146.imageshack.us/img146/1347/feenasighk3.jpg[/img:5c85a10b1b]

Wow, this series came out quicker than I was expecting. Well, it is a new season, so I guess it makes sense, I am definitely pleased with the release schedule. But I digress...
I watched the first episode and like many of you, I still wonder if this is indeed a sequel to the first season of Mai-HiME or if it's an alternate universe (Natsumi as a headmistress?!?!? it must be!!!! haha). A lot of the characters seem like younger versions of the characters of the first series, expect Shizuru, Tate, Natsumi and Akane. Kinda reminds me of how Puni Puni Poemi OVA was casted of younger versions of characters adapted from Excel Saga.
The character designs are nice, but sadly, not as good as the Mai-HiME cast (maybe cause they were older, I dunno). And even though it's only been one episode (my memory in general is horrible), none of the new characters have really stood out in my mind. I will have to watch it again sometime tonight.
As for story/plot, they keep "flashing" back.. or forward.. or meanwhile, I can't tell... to a bunch of different people. Plus they keep referring to an event that occurred 50 years earlier. Is this the HiME battle (what did Nagi call it? some carnival or something like that) they're talking about? Someone mentioned the different classes of Otomes, which I totally missed out, so I'll have to look at that again too.
This is also worth note, I believe. The person who wrote the synopsis in the Reviews Index said that Arika was "inspired by" Nina to become an otome, but if I remember this right, wasn't she on her way to the school anyway to train so she could become an otome like her mother? Maybe I'm mistaken, like I said, my memory is awful.
Anyway, given the first episode, I'm not that impressed. However, since I absolutely loved Mai-HiME, I will continue on with this series with the hopes that things will improve. Keeping my fingers crossed. _________________ GTX: Great Teacher Xeno... my daily blog about teaching in an elementary and middle school in Japan (see right-menu)

No, unfortunately you got your sources wrong in thinking this is a sequel to Mai-Hime.
This is actually an alternate universe to Mai-Hime. The setting are the same, some old characters are making an apperance, some of it (the afro guy in particular) also has new personalities in them. But Natsuki and Shizuru stayed the same, cool and calculating (and perhaps their relationship is the same, I wonder [hope!!])
I think it would be better if we can take our minds of Mai-Hime for awhile, and let's see what this now has to offer, since the old characters are kinda high-ranked in Mai-Otome. _________________ ...
The sypnosis kinda different one from the "past" Mai-Hime ...
Sound the second one is no different type like a Final Fantasy version...
I means every episode got own "personality"...

I know we should stick to the topic of the content of the series, but just one quick related side-question and then I'll shut up:
Static just released a Low-Quality and a High-Quality version of episode one. Does anyone know what this means? Will this be the standard for all of the episodes? _________________ GTX: Great Teacher Xeno... my daily blog about teaching in an elementary and middle school in Japan (see right-menu)

Different Codec being use, I think the Hard and soft is refering to .avi and .mkv files... don't mixed up... if you're looking for .avi get the soft one... Low-quality refering to the soft one and High-quality refering to hard one... I'm not too sure about this either... someone correct me if I'm wrong...
Sincerely, Otome did a better job for me then HiME does... I'm not particular interested in the character design of this series though. I'm only interested in their CHILD if you're talking about HiME.
As for OTOME, I kinda like their Coral Robe or whatever they call it... and the entire OTOME thingy... yea and Shizuru being cool in my opinion for the 1st time. I certainly hoping not to see any Yuri stuffs in this series like what I see in HiME cause Shizuru really tickle me off with her 'Yuri'-ness.
Lacking of male in OTOME i see... well... since this is entirely a new series that stands alone, I bet it should be better than HiME since the 1st ep is so promising... but i guess it is still early to judge the series...
Can't wait for 2nd ep... oh and the idea of a Gigantic Laser Cannon being attach on the bottom of the Slave is a pretty bad idea... Pervert like me would think otherwise... if you get what i mean... _________________ [img:800:198:5c85a10b1b]http://img146.imageshack.us/img146/1347/feenasighk3.jpg[/img:5c85a10b1b]

well based on their explanations, high quality does better pixellations when the action is too fast or the scene is too bright or something like that. Well, if you dont mind the extra space, better go for the high-quality _________________ ...

Yeay! The long wait is over! I watched yesterday the first episode, and I like it a lot!
I love the idea of the alternate universe and the whole new story.
If they keep the good works up, and give us a good plot like in Mai Hime this series would be marvelous too!!
And... Akane-chan look cute as ever!! Gambatte Akane-chan!! I hope that her play a major role in the story, not like in Mai Hime.
Akaneeechaaan!!!!
By the way, I too think that the "Slave" design is somewhat perverted, placing the main cannon there... hehehehe... nasty! (Maybe is an Eva rejected by Nerv because... it perversion!! )
PERV-CANNOOOON FIREEE!!!!!!!!!!!
And about the Otome with the flames background in the opening... Im the only one that thinks in the ninja girl when watching?
I hope that the quality level keeps up as the series advance... and Im hoping more Yuri!! More Natsuki-Shizuru!! And that reminds me... where is Yukino!?!?
PD: And please, dont compare Shizuru with a Gundam, Shizuru is a beauty full of curves, and a Gundam is... er... a brick with legs and weapons! _________________
Suikoden 2, a great RPG!

I dont quite like the yuri part. (throws up!) Shizuru is cute, but i dont quite like her yuri character. (Oh well, no one can be perfect)
And oh, motoko(that girl with the sword in Mai-HiMe) BECAME A CAT. LOLOLOL! I want more Mai *Drool*
(Off topic) : In Mai-HiME did Mai end up with Tate? (Couldn't resist, must know, i sick of waiting for the entire series to finish downloading, and thats 72 hours away >.<)

well just watched ep 2
A slight annoyance brewed in this one. Well particularly because of the one brat (the princess), but I don't think the enjoyment factor will be marred by this one.
Nagi appeared, and he was now a king. A bunch of other old characters also appeared, and most of them are the same old characters that we knew from Hime.
And looks like we are going to have some shoujo ai in this one We have been given some sorts of signal that it will proceed along this way

My first impression of this anime is that it isn't enjoyable as mai hime but it's still nevertheless good as it has the mai hime feel and quality to it, as i watch more maybe i'll like it as much as mai hime. Only time will tell.
I heard that they have a star-like system for anime characters in Japan. Just like actors/actresses play different parts in different movies, they "cast" the Mai-HIME characters in an entirely different series. It's kinda amusing, in a way, since you can compare each of the characters' "performance" in the two series.
Case in point: Mashiro - from quiet, wheelchair-bound director to snotty, carefree brat.
About Mai-Otome itself: well, I liked Mai-HIME better. The main characters are too loli for my tastes. I don't mind that it looks to be a maho sentai (magical girl group) - type of show, but I find it kinda odd, considering its timeslot (1:30 AM in Japan.)
