The MAiDs aren`t quite your usual run-of-the-mill maids. They support royalty and politicians, and act as advisors to them as well. It`s a profession all the girls want to do when they grow up. Girls who want to become MAiDs are gathered from each country and attend the MAiD training school, Galdelupe, for two years and undergo intensive training, after which they become MAiDs. The chosen among them who have the abilities might dream of becoming "My Star MAiDs"
synopsis - animenfo
Otome - who are ladies that guard important persons such as royal families and presidents, at other times, they are brains and advisors of politics. It is the longing vocation for girls all over the world. Garderobe is an academy that has sent numerous Otome into high societies.
The main character, Arika Yumemiya, is a 14-year-old girl. She came to Vintbroom Kingdom to look for her mother, who used to be Meister Otome. When she arrived here, she saw Shizuru, she made up her mind to become Otome. However, in order to become Otome, she has to graduate with honors from Garderobe.
Opinion:
This ep is one of the 'ones to watch' many people including myself have been waiting for this. This is the second season of mai Hime, but it is a totally different story. At the moment i can only go on what i have read and what others have told me, since no group has released the promo yet, but i can definantly say that i will be on the lookout for the first release of this.
You can find the AniDB review Here and the animeNfo review Here
EDIT
I know there is an existing thread for this, but i thought it would be easier for new comers if there was a new one, because they could just look at the first post and understand what the anime is about. Also if i was to look at the other mai-otome thread it is people talking about carrying on from the last one, and well that might confuse new comers as well.

As i have said there, it is the second season mai hime but the stories are completely different, different characters, different setting and so on.

well personally, Mai-Hime was not one of my favourite anime during that time... the opening was a bit... dissappointing to me... but then again, the middle arc is good, and the final arc is mind-blowing!!
Mai-Otome, being an alternate universe of Mai-Hime... well I need to see if they would preserve the same type of characters that we all come to love in Mai-Hime, or will they be out of character _________________ ...

um by saying maybe this one will be better, its like you are saying the original wasnt one of the best anime show's in recent history, which it was..
imo mai-hime was an okay anime. It only really got better in the second half of the show, when the storyline starts to get serious. Before that it was just mucking around as usual (not that I hate it, but it's just so repeatative from other anime), with some occassional fighting.
Well, we'll see what this sequel has to offer than (would be nice to see some of the original characters from mai-hime)
omg Arika is so annoying, Nina can't make up for it at least in ep1. Shizuru however is SO cool she reminded me of Strike Freedom at the end scene ^^ Mashiro is also very nice, a 180° turn from Mai hime
um by saying maybe this one will be better, its like you are saying the original wasnt one of the best anime show's in recent history, which it was..
in my opinion its no where near one of the best shows, NO WHERE.
Thats not to say it wasn't good. Mai Hime was certainly a very good anime(at least for me)! Its one which i think is actually better than the manga(altho initially the manga starts of better imo).
Neways Mai-Otome is certainly one to watch and lots of people have been waiting a while for this one ^^

huh, very interesting. for me, i cant think of too many other recent shows that compare to it.
its been a while since i watched it the second time through but as I remember it had me falling out of my seat laughing at the school/romantic comedy one second and then clearing my misty eyes the next at how intensely emotional it was. all the while providing some great plot twists. the characters and the plot had alot of depth. and with all the quirky, anticky, and situational comedy it was like the perfect show for me. I think if all you care about is like the traditional mecha action fighting stuff then you might not be a fan i guess.
to me, this anime was like a novel but with beautiful animation and a nice soundtrack.
so if its NO WHERE near one of the best recent shows then please by all means point me to these other shows so i can buy them. thanks.

Bleach. Hands down. Got the same stuff you want, occassional comedy (man I love that buwahaha guy ^^") and it's pretty serious too with some good fights. But that's beside the point.
I feel like Mai-Otome might start off similar to Mai-HiME though, I wonder where the male chars are?
EDIT: Before the Mai-HiME lovers start flaming me, let me clarify this: I DON'T hate Mai-HiME. It is an okay anime and the ending is really good (except that I find all the "dead" ppl coming back to life bit lame). Just that I can't compare it with some of the best series out there so far.
