as most of u know u are able to mod game systems such as the ps or ps2 though this is illegal it is actually pretty interesting. as a result of moddin u r able to get cheap games burned ones fairly easily. i believe i heard of them doing this in hong kong as well i heard a rumor of moddin an x-box due to its computer like design u are basically able to put in a game and save it to the harddrive? now im not sure if this is true but apparently afetr saving it u no longer have to use the disc to play...neways wat r ur thoughtson this?

Not only in Hong Kong though. Even countries like Indonesia, Singapore and Malaysia sold modded PS2, PS and XBoX. I have a modded PS2, but I bought mostly original games nowadays. The pirated that I buy is for trying only. If the game is good, I bought the originals.

Mod-chips aren't illegal. They have the capability of running illegal medias but aren't illegal for its main purpose. And that is to let the system run other region codes (imports) and homebrew works. Also, mod-chips like the ones for Xbox are great for copying the games onto the hard drive to load the games way much faster and this is completely legal. I think mod-chips are illegal in the U.S., though. I'm no sure yet.

And I believe you can't play through XboxLive if your Xbox is modded.

i think its great that u buy the real one after and i guess ur right that it depends on wat u use it for and as for playing online like xbox live or the ps2 online thing u can. u just have to turn it off or disable it first most modders will tell u how for example my gfrends ps2 u hold start and select while its loading and it will be disabled then to re-enable just restart the ps2 but for the x box savin it to memory i know ppl who iwll buy a game save it then return it so basically feree games and i do beleive that is illegal in many countries

Selling mod-chips or including the mod-chps in the consoles to make money is illegal.

And I believe that you can't get a full refund on a CD-based media that's already opened unless you live somewhere else where that rule doesn't apply. Therefore it's not "basically feree games."

It isn't much of a big deal where I live because the gaming community is usually just invovled with Halo2 or some sort of MMORPG.

But, honestly, I used to have a Modded N64 (because Japanese cartridges are different from american ones) and I still have my modded Sega Genesis (I know super old school). I was considering modding my PS2, but since the system is dying I decided not to.

Modding systems is okay because of the fact that some parts of the world cannot get their hands on a Japanese version of the console in order to play foriegn games. Other than that, if you mod your system to play games for free...that's basically what everyone is going to do sooner or later

actually the only reason i got my ps2 modded was because of the many japanese/ anime based games that are nearly impossible to find unless u go to conventions like naruto narutimate hero which i found out was actually quite easy but they have to mail it to you and actually my frend is able to return games which is pretty weird

a friend of mine has a mod-chip but he doesn't use it for anything serious, he just saves the game on the hard disk takes out the game and starts messing around with the data on the hard disk so that when you play the game its all messed up Laughing Rolling Eyes

Ah, yeah. My friend went there over the summer and told me about it. Don't they cost around $300 dollars (U.S. equivalent)? He also told me that there were soldiers over there, taking everything in that's being sold illegal in the streete a few times a month. I'm planning to visit there for Christmas.
