|
|
| This is for all the Japanese speaking readers... if there are any... did you ever find it that when you read manga translated into english it sounds really corny.. i find that mostly with naruto.. like all the serious part seems to be really funny when translated in english... this happens alot with kawaii, ecchi, or comedy mangas.. Is it me or does anyone else recognise this? |

I find that a lot of lines are corny, lol. If I read a manga online thats been translated (or even watch anime) after reading the same manga in Japanese, its a bit odd to say the least! I find that translating loses a lot of the character and humor of the characters and manga, but it can't be helped |

That's right, that's why a lot of translators put a "Translator's Note" or "Editor's Note" or something like that, to explain Japanese jokes and puns that cannot be translated to English.
But sometimes, a miracle happens. That even if you translate it to English, it'll still be funny... haha. (Pretty Face manga)
So that's that. Jusat keep in kind that not all people get the punch line, so it's quite hard to make Western people laugh with Eastern jokes.... _________________ EX-mod |

| but i also feel for the translaters.... its hard to put it into the context of japanese humor compared to english humor.. Thats why some really funny comics arent translated as the english audience would not appriciate it.. I think alot of japanese comedy mangas are filled with "inside jokes" that only japanese people find funny and only japanese culture can understand... |

Your very right. There are language jokes such as kanji jokes, phrasing, dialects that you just can't translate well. Other ones are things that refer to Japanese culture/history that unless your from Japan, its hard to "get" lol. Even though I've spent a lot of time in Japan, lots of things like that fly right over my head, because I don't have the "inside" look, lol. Its frustrating, but when its something you do know, makes ya feel good |

I think VIZ is the master of corny translations.
ESPECIALLY their Shonen Jump manga, which is why I buy Shonen Jump manga in japanese.
One Piece's english version is TERRIBLE. (both manga AND anime) |
