miyazaki is a brilliant director who puts alot into all of his films, i have seen all but my neighbour totoro and princess monoke (think thats how u spell it) and they are all rather striking films, also lets note how in most of his films he uses young girls and the heroins of the film (kiki's delievery service, spirited away and laputa) to tell which one of his fillms would be the best would be a very hard descision indeed. i rather like spirited away though. but most people think that this is his worst work...?

Actually Spirited Away is one of the most highly acclaimed films by Miyazaki. Spirited Away is one of the few animes that many people have heard of outside of the anime fan community (including Akira and Ghost in the Shell). The fact that it's one of the few if not the only Anime film to win an Oscar Award tells you how well it was recieved outside of Japan.

yup i agree
i think Spirirted Away has been very successful
i only hope if they are going to create another anime film that is as great as Spirited Away.

Princess Mononoke, the story is good that both sides explained their reasons.

I think Spirited Away has become the victim of its own success. It was so widely acclaimed that it's almost become uncool to say you think it's his best work. I've seen most of Miyazaki's works though and while they're all brilliant films, I've had minor issues with each of them... apart from Spirited Away. For me, it's just the film where everything clicks, where everything just works.

That aside, you've got to love Porco Rosso. I mean, it's a film about a flying pig. A FLYING PIG!!! Rock!

So basically, if you're trying to get someone to watch anime, and they say something along the lines of "I'll watch anime when pigs fly", you can then say "Well, its funny you should say that, because..."

*hmm*
i don't know which one is better between :

- Spirited Away (2001)
- Howl's Moving Castle (2004)
- Princess Mononoke (1997)
- My Neighbor Totoro (1988)
they are all so nice..they have great drawing for the period of time they were developed..and the storys are REALLY interesting..
so they are my favourits ...can't really decide..it is hard Embarassed

I thought Howl's Moving Castle was his best film. Though I must say that Princess Mononoke and Spirited Away are both up there (each one having a lot of very good moments, especially Spirited Away), Howl had the best story that pulls you in from the beginning and never lets go. The characters in the movie were all very likable and as always the artwork was magnificent. But for whatever reason, this was the one that really grabbed me, and I can constantly watch it again and again and be sucked into the story.

On a side note, have any of you seen his son's new movie (or are planning on seeing it)? Gedo senki-Tales from Earthsea by GorÅ? Miyazaki. It looks interesting, and from what I have read it is supposed to be quite similar to his father's work.

War.

i just seen Howl's Moving Castle and i think it is also his best work. i think the fantasy world Miyazaki had created grips you right from the start of the film and only lets go at the end. The character developement is also nicely done because you can see clearly how each character changes in time. The animation is obviously top class and i think Howl's Moving castle is better than Spirited Away.
