Best 3rd person action game

Ok so there have been several games in this style recently (LoTR, Star Wars Episode 3, Devil May Cry, God of War, Prince of Persia, Dynasty Warriors), but I'm keeping it to the 3 that I think offer the most awesome combat. Personally I'd vote for Devil May Cry 3 but God of War is a close 2nd.

Please vote on the basis of pure gameplay, nothing else!

If anyone thinks there should be another title in the poll please feel free to request it.

Note: I'm excluding Devil May Cry 2 because it offends me with its sheer awefulness, and Sands of Time because Warrior Within was much more combat orientated. Also most of the Dynasty Warriors series cos theyre all the same. This Also applies to LotR Wink

I'm going with Prince of Persia. Ubisoft is the best gaming company out there. Or here, since I'm also in Canada Embarassed

I think out of all these choices, Devil May Cry 3 is the best so far.

I like japanese produced games after all.

you kinda forgot Ninja Gaiden...it's almost the same as DMC3 but the enemies are much much more intelligent.

True, sadly I only own a ps2 but I've played it briefly and Ryu does seem to kick a fair amount of ass!

P.S. Ubisoft release some really bad/buggy games. Warrior Within frustrated me beyond belief, and what they did to the prince character from Sands of Time I will never know because he lost all his charm and became a stereotypical "badass" with laaame one liners Sad

God of War was alot of fun also more then just hack an slash found the boss fights to be quite entertaining. But DMC3 was quite fun as well and more variation on weapons skills and so on then God of War. But I'll go for God of War anyway

Hmmm, I'm a PC gamer myself (never had a console), so most of these I know only by screenshots but Warrior within seems quite well-made. Aside from that good 3rd person actions... To be quite honest, the new Prince of Persia series are quite good, and of course the GTA III series is a classic Smile

Other than that... if they had only paid a little more time working on the VtM:bloodlines in combat and overall gameplay... sigh...

If they had finished the damn thing before they released it that would have been nice as well Evil or Very Mad

never finished that game because of that bug when you meet the witch hunter guy. Bah, personally I hated it, it was too shallow and cheap.

Hmmm, I like the fact that you had evil May Cry 1 and Devil May Cry 3 as seperate options (and I like the fact that you didn't include the terrible game: Devil May Cry 2). I personally think that DMC1 is better than DMC3. Basically the first game was really fun and the game play was fluid (in the sense that everything was smooth). The story line was solid and I actually enjoyed the voice acting in the game. Now this doesn't mean that anything was wrong with DMC3. I mean I loved the fact that it was a prequel and gave us more story line to what happened before DMC1. But the game was kind of hard...I mean I had soooo much trouble with the final boss (I ended up using Quicksilver to kill him). I just think that it was odd that Dante had all the cool abilities in the 3rd game (which was a prequel) and lost them all in the sequel (well it isn't really a sequel, but you know what I mean), DMC1. Oh well, just got to give it to the man Dante in DMC1

Wheres Ninja Gaiden ?, that game kicked a large amount of ass and its replayability is alot better than Devil May Cry 3. it wasnt a typical mash fest, there certain combos that were shown and it was one of the hardest 3rd person games imo.

I voted for DMC3 but i heard God of War was really.

Ryu vs Dante, would be a pretty good thread.
