Oh, poor you! Dont worry, everything will get better! Honest it will!
As for your friends, loveless is right, if they were real friends, they will come back to you.
Besides, I guess you could call me a friend, albeit an extremely strange one!

Ah well, so far so good, I'm still well, but for how much longer...?
so how important exactly is kanji?i'm taking a jap beginner's course next year....n i'm hoping that other than kanji it's going to be easy, cuz i know chinese(someone mentioned to me kanji n chinese characters are somewhat similar)
Well, if you know chinese, learning more kanjis is gonna be easier for you than other students, like me. However, if you certainly want to learn japanese, you MUST study the japanese kanjis. Yes, they can be something similar, but still aren't the same.
If it is just a begginer course, I guess it should be more important to learn the kanas (hiragana and katakana). But, answering your question:
Yes, if you don't know japanese kanjis, you're an illiterate.

daijiobu ne! My japanese sucks, and there was once, i had this conversation with a japanese man, and he thought I was a fluent speaker.....he asked me where I studied my japanese and I told him, " Homme staady desu"..... Thank god he understood that.....
He sayed " so desune ", and something like yokata desune...... I was kinda cold sweating....
I am going to learn japanese, though I just started high school. I know a little bit, thanks to some friends. My favorite word is Yume and i have a japanese nickname. rosuto yume, though most people wind up calling me Chii. _________________ The Real Life Anime Character. Teehee!
