As I am a anime freak I am of course intrigued by the Japanese language, and lately I've began to study it more seriously like visiting different quiz sites about japanese words and sometimes I even study some from a book i dug out at home.
My goal is to be able to speak and understand basic japanese since I'm not so suitable to sit and study all nights long, I just do it as long as it's fun. So once I can form sentances and speak like a 8-year old nihon-jin or something I'm happy. I'll probably throw in some Hirigana just for the heck of it, nice to be able to write in cryptic languages

I just buy some japanese books and dictionary....
Please give some advise to learn quicky....
(watashi wa Firipingo ga hanasemasu.)
わたひ わ ふぃりぴんご が はなせます。 _________________ "HITSUZEN-A naturally foreordained event.
-A state in which no other outcomes are impossible.
-A result which can only be obtained by a single causality, and other causalities would necessarily create different results."
Well, I don't want to seem like someones who's thinking "You've done this mad!!!" all the time, but anyways:
私 は フィリピン語 が 話ます (Watashi wa Firipingo ga hanashimasu)
I mean, reading hiragana is a great way to start, but everyone who wants to know Japanese should know either hiragana and katakana, besides a short amount of kanjis. I consider the Watashi (私), Go(語) and hanashi (話) enough simple. By the way, whenever you're using the wa particle to remark the subject (in this case, Watashi), we use the HA symbol (は).
Advises to learn quickly? I don't think there's a good way to learn japanese quickly, just doing it in an organized way. And try to learn as many different kanjis as you can...
Now I'll stop, I don't want to make people think now I'm a troll...-_-

Japanese has, unlike English and other languages well known around the world, three alphabets (English just has one). However, they're divided into two groups: Kana's ( かな ) and Kanjis ( 漢字 ). Also, the kana's are divided into two, the hiragana ( ひらがな ) and katakana ( カタカナ ). Hiragana alphabet (which is what you used) has 46 different characters. The katakana is supposed to have the same number, but it is possible to make a few more sounds...
Kanjis are a different thing. Usually, they're more complicated and requires more work to write them than the other. The average number of existing kanjis is over 50,000. Wait, don't be afraid. No one knows all of them. In fact, the only kanjis that exist nowadays (and are used) are over 3,000. There's a list (called Tôjo Kanji, or something like that...), that ensembles near to 2,000 kanjis, which are the more used, and the ones tought at school.
That's like a short introduction. I recommend asking Saint Google for more information.

that minimum list is kinda low.. i know we were tought 500 kanji b4 5th grade, then we were supposed to know 2000 at the end of our second year of middle school... i miserbly failed those.. and hence the reason i'v loathed kanji since as long as i can remember.. and now i remember less than 100.. and i'v been out of the loop for...5 years..

ephbuck, were you born and raised in Japan? Because it really seems so...
By the way, you just remember 100 kanji? That must be pretty useless ^_^
lived there for most of the first 4 years of my life, then after moving to Cali, i went to a private japanese school just on saterdays.. it really sucked.. imagine going to your american school for the 5 days each week, then instead of being able to play on saterdays you had to spend THE WHOLE day at a private school at which they drilled the brains out of you.. and the worse part is, since we had to keep up with the curiculum in japan, we had to do the rest of the weeks worth of schooling as homework.. do you know how tramatizing it is for a kid to come home from his american school each day only to go strait to homework till 11 at night!!! this is like 2nd grade and up.. makes me loath home work even to this day... EEVVIIILLL!!!! and i was never really good with kanji in the first place.. so after we moved and havent been able to find a real jap school for 5+ years.. most of the harder stuff that i'v learned has gone away.. but not all is lost.. i can still understand 95% and can talk at about 80%.. talking about stuff like history getts a bit hard..especially ancient jap history...
FYI: i was supposed to go to jap tomarow, the 13th, but becuase my grandfathers going thru chemotharipy i gave my spot up to my mom, i'll have another chance someother day...

What are u complaining about ,in my country, english is the common language,ur native language is the next language that u have to master,if u have a family like me,they will force u to learn more language besides these two language such as arabic(for religion),chinese(at school as a module) and indonesian language(as to speak to my far away relative). So,the solution was that,i only learn hard as to pass my exams and to please my parent's.Now,to be frank,i actually forget all the languages i had learned in the past except english.
