I should be pretty fluent in Japanese because I have a degree in Asian Culture and Language Japanese, but I don't get to use it as much as I would like. I read raw manga and watch raw anime (watch translated and hear the difference in the translations as well), but I forget many kanji readings and word meanings. I want to go to Japan sometime in the future.
私は日本語を少し話します。文法と単語が忘れてしまうのです。
わたしはにほんごをすこしはなします。ぶんぽうとたんごがわすれてしまうのです。
I can speak a little Japanese. Because I completely forget the grammer and vocabulary.
Oh, well. I tried. _________________ "There is a method to my madness and madness in my method."
I speak some japanese, while living there it is a question life and death.
Incredible how poor their english level is.
The nicest people on earth but no way to share anything or even order in a mc donalds if you don't speak japanese.
i lived in jap a few years when i was smaller, so i kno some jap. i still read my jap manga collection sometimes (doraemon, conan, etc).
from wat i remember of japan, it was a strange country. does anyone remember the commercial for the original jet grind radio for dreamcast? well in japan, almost all the commercials are like that. it's really freaky.
and i kno ppl kno this, but i have to stress this: their inglish SUX. their vocab and grammar is prolly lower than an american elementary student. need i cite proofs, like "Chrno Crusade" and "Zero One"?
As for learning japanese, i say the best (but prolly not probable) way is to take all ur belongings, take only the stuff that'll fit in a suitcase, haul ur ass to japan, and live there for at least a year. that's wat i did, but that was when i was really young, so others may not find it as succesful. _________________ "Screw you guys, I'm going home!"

As if everyone could pay that...(It's definitely not my case).
The Engrish is something known outside of Asia...It occurs because japanese language has just five different vowels, it's a simple language. Check out at www.engrish.com for some curious mistakes, hehe ^_^

There must be a problem...Try ordering a Beikon no Hambaaga. And I'll tell you, japanese people try to do their best with English, there are a lot of countries which have lower English skills with their population.

I can't speak Japanese. I can't read Japanese. Learning 3 languages in school is already tough (Malay, English and Mandrin). Until now, I can only read English and Malay. I can speak 3 languages though. I'll try to find time to learn Japanese. Currently I have a lot of work to do.

I speak some... but very limited... I have to learn it own my own... so I have to tie it in with my french and english... which is difficult none the less...
Learning french is easy... if you know english... all the european languages are based off Latin (Go roman empire, making my life easier)... but japanese is harder to grasp... took me a while to say "i" as a a long vowel e, or get us to the idea at least...

What is bad about this? Not everything revolves around this one language...
Who´s complaining about Asians not being able to speak English, should try learning an Asian language instead to see how difficult it is to learn such a different language.
