Anime Spotlight: Honey & Clover + Full Metal Panic: The Second Raid!

We have two new prediction spotlights for anime this summer. One has already had 8 or so episodes released (Honey and Clover) and the other is scheduled to be released this week, July 13th (Full Metal Panic: The Second Raid!).

Honey & Clover
Honey & Clover (Hachimitsu to Clover) is the story of the lives and loves of a group of "poor", half starved college art students.
It follows their daily lives dealing with project deadlines, friendships and food! Food seems to take quite a spotlight in this anime, which makes the opening animation not only the most imaginable I've seen in quite some time, but also very poignant to the story, as it's made up of sequences of plates of different foodstuffs, including a very scary shrimp!
Each episode begins with a brief narration from one of the main characters, Takemoto, as this story is seen mostly through his eyes. It shows how he has been able to make friends and have a reason "to be" and that life is a road worth taking.
It's an extremely charming anime, that will have you rolling around in fits of laughter one minute and secretly crying the next.
It's filled with some of the most enigmatic characters you are likely to ever meet. The sweet Hagu, a woman trapped in a child's body. Morita, with his strange disappearances. Mayama and Yamada and their unrequited loves.
Above all, it will bring home to the viewer, the meaning of what it's like to leave the last fragments of childhood behind and begin that long winding, and sometimes scary, journey that leads to adulthood.
Full Metal Panic: The Second Raid!
In the Second Raid, we again follow the main characters from the first series and if you really want to know, that bad guy from the first series who just wouldn't die ... isn't dead yet.
Add a secret terrorist organization and we have another more serious plot with lots of action that is more in line with the first season and less like the filler season Full Metal Panic? Fumoffu.
New characters including two twin sisters causing some havoc and chaos and the introduction of Leonard Testarossa, brother of Tessa Testarossa.
Animation is expected to be top notch and done by the same studio for Fumoffu and is supposedly based on the "The End of the Day by Day" FMP manga. TSR is a true continuation of the FMP series while Fumoffu can be considered events happening in between during 'time off' at school.
Everyone can look forward to more action and comedy this summer with The Second Raid!

Honey & Clover is definitely a hilarious drama anime that touches you emotionally but yet is silly and fun like azumanga daioh. Probably the best of late spring, early summer anime.

| I was actually considering watching Honey & Clover, but since you compared it to Azumanga Daioh (note that I didn't like that series), I guess I won't be watching this anytime soon.

| Hachimitsu and Clover: Potentially to be one of the best anime around this season... just getting heavier and wackier at the same time...
FMP:TSR - one of the most anticipitated anime series coming out... judging from the preview, it would revert back to the gold old mecha... nice to see Aru there, and Urz 6,7,8 (am I right) kicking some backside
conclusion: both are a must-watch, honey and clover too! even if you dont like these kind of anime, but it would hook you and reel you in with its realism (except hagu of course LOL) |

Himitsu: Honey and Clover is nothing like Azumanga. H&C is so much more mature and deeper. Not to mention it has "smart humor" as compare to "slap-stick" humor in Azumanga. |

| Honey and Clover is very catching, hard to stop once you start.
On to FMP/TSR - hmm, to paraphrase the spoiler above, the bad guy from the first series isn't really dead (grrrr). Not a good way to continue the series, IMHO. I really liked the first FMP, but no-one I know of could have survived the way that rat-bastard "died" in the first FMP. Too hard to keep a good villian down, I guess. More Fumoffu would be appreciated, and I hope they have more development of the relationhip between the main characters in TSR than they did the first one. |

| Honey and Clover is one of the best anime of 2005 - so far! It's definitely a "slice of life" type anime and it doesn't take much for you to feel really connected to the characters.
The nicest thing about it is it's originality! Although the theme has been covered before, it's the way it's executed that brings out that originality. A must see ^_^ |
