| Well at the current point in time, owning a blu-ray player, not to mention some form of hdtv and surround sound of some sort can cost you upwards of $1500. It's the cost that pushes most people away from blu-ray or hd-dvd.
I would love to pay 80-100$ for an entire boxset on one disc though. It's easier to keep track of one dvd than 5 (not to mention storing them). |

| | i kinda have to agree with demon on having everything on one disc. I have seen blu ray movies and with the right equipment it looks and sounds great. just hope that "good" anime goes up on blu ray. |

| | Personally, I'd like to stick with my DVD's. Having more DVD's is aesthetically nice because you have more DVD cases/covers to look at. Also, I wouldn't want to pay more money to get into a entertainment "phase" people switch for (i.e: VHS -> DVD... DVD -> Blu-Ray). I hope they just stick with that we have now. |

| | Well, a lot of people who watch anime are also gamers... don't forget that the PS3 is also a Blu-Ray player. |

| Honestly, I don't see more episodes getting crammed on a blueray disc (maybe an increase from the three-four episodes per to a four-five, but nothing crazy like an entire season on one disc). It makes the production companies LOSE money, and that is not something they want.
I think you should expect to see higher quality, better sound, and more extras. Maye some OSTs, manga scans or something. |

| First off, let me say that your not making it vary hard for us to pick on you Xeno ;) plz have someone look over your logic before you post =)
j/k but seriously thanks for bring up this topic.....
I for one am excited and here is why:
~using your own logic its actually cheaper to buy the Blue-ray and I dont have to wait 6-12 months to get the WHOLE series, BAM I can go pick up one disk and have a nice 6hr sitting. =)
~They can still give me a sexy box (like a game size one that has lots of bells and whistles)
~In regards to someone else's post, I am sure if the anime companies are taking a look at this they will be making a profit. lets leave be with the details.
~THEE #1 Reason Why Blue-Ray will Pwn current DvDs (excited?!):
They can finally put on some decent subtitles. I dont know about you but I hate the yellow/white ones. (oh and if your wondering why they wont ever change on a Normal dvd it is because to get their "I am a Real US dvd sticker, they have to comply with gov standards on certain issues like subtitles) The blue rays will allow them to pack on extra subs besides the offical ones *due to the disks large space*
anyhow if they dont give me some decent subs This post was in vain and I for one would like to see all of their marketing committing shot, because this is the only reason, that I can see, in why not to buy most dvds.

| | I strongly agree with soul. I believe companies are smart enough to know how to market their product where they make profit or else there marketing committee is pretty dumb. Also if they do come out with some whack out subs like some of the one I have, that would be the only reason I would not get the product. |

| the ps3 is also a blu-ray player, which also has impressive quality. i believe that blu-ray would come out on top over dvds on the mere fact that the ps3 is a blu-ray player. with all the talk about blu-ray vs. hddvd blu-ray would win. hddvd players are quite pricey, i've seen prices range from $300 to over $1000. in no means i'm saying hd dvd players are more expensive than blu-ray players, because they both cost roughly the same, but the ps3 is being sold at $600. personally, i'd rather buy a ps3 (for the fact that i can play games and watch high quality movies) over an hd dvd player (which can only watch high-def movies).
to actually to respond to the thread, anime being on blu-ray would be a great idea. having a full season of anime on one disc is more convenient for storage than having a shoe box on your shelf, even though the box do look nice. but what does bother me is the "special" boxes that contains one disc with 3-5 episodes that take up more room than a season set. |

| | When the prices drop like they did for the DVD or they put alot of really good anime on blu ray. I'll consider it. Though for now the DVD is far more cost effective. Really though I don't think there are that many HD animes. I don't even think they go into the realm of facial colour that reallly should see it in high def. |

| hmm well blu ray is practicly non existant around here so going to that medium right now would be kinda suicidal seeing the shops aren't selling anything and no I don't really like depending on the internet on that one ;)
PS3 being able to play them however is a good argument ofcourse if you are planning to buy one. Otherwise you may just buy some games that you'll never play becuase the PC is the one keeping you hooked ;) |

| Having an entire series on one disk would be a huge turn off for me. I have an HDTV and if all i could use my crazy new blu-ray player was to watch one very, very long standard definition dvd, I'd be pissed.
And on a side note, the HD-DVD add on for the Xbox 360 is only $179. Ive had my 360 for a while and when given the choice of $200 HD-DVD player or $600 blu-ray, it was a no brainer on what to buy (though i will be getting a PS3 when they actually start making good games). |

| Offering a different opinion, although I agree with some of your stuff (cant we put it in a more discussable place?)
1) Set marketing scheme> Well people in my country are moving houses like every ten years. I thinking that people are more adaptable to the fast moving technologies now. It took me a while to start using DVDs like ten years back, but now DVDs are common, I think it will be the same with Blu-ray. Well, although I dun think animes will get larger in size (unlike games), the convenience will definetely be a plus factor for many people.
2) Consumer Mindset> Agreeing, but people nowadays are a lot more into investments. Hardcore fans aside, other people might want to get it due to it's cheaper value per episode (I think?)
3) Fandom Support> Having a collection is lovely, I had one too. But I guess we could "present" it nicely too... like how they frame up the vintage black disc (what they called?). I think next generation kids will look at our DVD collection like how I look at my dad's VCD collection? |

| As has been mentioned already, there are two new types of disks. The Blue-Ray technology, which is entirely owned by Sony, and the HD-DVD, which is an open technology. The real issue isn't weither DVDs will be replaced in the next few years, it is which format will win out.
This is a more modern version of the Beta/VCR compitions of thirty years ago. Blue-Ray is a better technology (more disk space, disks burn properly more often, etc.) but is owned by a rather controlling company. HD-DVDs any company could potentialy stamp out, but they are more finiky and have about half the storage space.
So far, Sony has convinced Diseny and a few other major companies in the movie industry that Blue-Ray is going to be the way to go. The computer industry is still waiting to see what happens, and it looks like the anime industry is waiting to see what buyers reactions are.
The Xbox-360 vs. PS3 thing has kind of stalled the anime industry, as alread mentioned many fans are also gamers. |

| | i agree kinda i think they will put more on a disk but i think they will go overboard on special features rather than cram the whole series on one blueray, plus a PS3=bluray dvd player so thats not a problem for anyone who actually bought a PS3. |

| I am in total agreement with #13 above.
My main issue with Blu-Ray is that the format is proprietary. I would not mind that so much, but the thing is, the proprietor is none other than Sony. Personally, I am not a fan of Sony and I hate that corporation to its guts, just because they disrespect their customers and treat them like pirates. Also, Sony uses underhanded tactics to get their way. I boycott Sony for that reason, and I always tell my friends not to buy their products.
Also, parting from the proprietary point of view, manufacturers would have to pay royalties to Sony when producing Blu-Ray disks with X or Y contents, in order to keep the revenue stream stable, the price of the final product will have to be increased, which hurts the customer (think why Memory Stick cards are more expensive than SD and microSD).
Unless Sony opens up the format (and at least on my side, stops being a DRM whore), I do not see how this will work out for anime distributors, I prefer HD-DVD, and I believe that is the way to go. |

| | idk!! i kinda agree, but then again........not all people have that kinda $$$$ to give $100 for 26 ep. anime... and that is going to effect the licencer. and not all people have ps3 or blue ray disk players! maybe in the future! but not now!!! think of the children would there parents buy a disk worth that amount? they berly buy any anime dvd cus there $20 or $30... they say it's too expensive! or it's not worth it! well that what my mom would say! idk if you live in a rich fam. or if you work or if your like 21+ but what about us? 21-? i have a job! it would take me like two week to pick up the cash but i don't think my cus who is anime crazy would have? (cus she don't have a job) and only like 3 out of all my friends in school have a ps3! like i said B 4 ..... in the future!! |

.... you're still going to have to wait... they're not going to release the series complete collection until all the episodes are ready anyway. That's how it is now with DVDs and the CCs. Most likely Blu-ray (or HD-DVDs) will be released 3-6 episodes at a time like DVDs are now. The issue of CCs on Blu-ray isn't going to happen for a while anyway since the prices for DVDs now isn't about the cost of making the disks, but moreso the cost of procuding the title (ie, license-fees, voice-actors, marketing). |

| I agree with xeno on that. The cost of extra features, license-fees, and all that stuff are probably too expensive to just put in all on Blu-ray. Plus it'll took a very long time to dub all those episode and putting crappy sub on them. According to the interview with Maile F. (Naruto's voice actors), she only did 1 episode per section so it'll be awhile for long running anime like Bleach or Inuyasha or Naruto. Those will probably be put on several Blu-ray.
Beside, when you have everything on 1 disk then it's line of other products like figurines, posters, etc. I believe won't have very high sale (don't know why I thought so). Probably because otaku's already spend whopping dollars on the disk right away and can't afford to buy it's products, too. In time, when he does have the money, his interest in it is probably gone sometime ago.
I didn't really get half of the comment made by users since I don't know a lot about this stuff because I even have no idea how high the graphic is Blu-ray. |

| | in time blu-ray may replace dvd's, like dvd-replaced-vcd-replaced-vhs. It will also cost less because technology advances very quickly. just like celphones, 5 yrs ago my cel has a colorless screen, now it can take pics and video in 3.2MG-pixel. But right dvd's for me |
