Spotlight Prevew: Eden of the East
|
|
A new series has emerged for Spring 2009... one so good that it has lured Website Content Administrator xenocrisis0153 out of anime reviewing "retirement" to write a quick article. If you've read the Anime-Source.com Spring 2009 Preview Guide, then you're probably already aware that Higashi no Eden/Eden of the East is the recommended sensation of the season, but if you weren't convinced by the words of the staffers there, then maybe this full preview article will show you the way.
If you're a fan of mystery, drama, action, and romance, or you just love to delve in the beautiousness of what animation today is capable of, then Eden will not disappoint. 11 episodes from Production I.G. deliver a truly engaging mystery heavily related to the Post-9/11 world we all live in, and trying to fix this hellish mess of a world we've all created. May our savior protect us... Noblesse Oblige!!!

P.S. If you've been wondering where I ran off to and why I don't review anime regularly anymore, it's because I'm living in Japan in my own real-life anime, haha. | Arrggghhhh! This show is SO great! The character designs are great and I love the backgrounds! Even though they are reverse rendered images, it's still a lot of work to make them look good. And the plot points are doled out to us in perfect portions. For the first time I have a tie for first place in the anime I NEED to watch. And the two couldn't be more different in genre's either!
A most excellent review! I see you've been getting pointers from AJtheFourth! HeeHee |

| Great job xeno, unlike Brett Favre, you're someone who should come out of retirement every now and then, especially for an amazing series like Eden of the East! Look forward to an amazing in-depth review. I already have pages of notes trying to keep up with it all!
@2 Whaaaa...? He's the one that gives me pointers!

| @6 - haha, you could just say what you really want to say and call me the "Tom Brady" of anime reviewing, haha. Seeing as we're both from New England, I know you're dying to say it.
And don't fall for Jack's backwards nonsense. That guy is backwards and full of nonsense. ^__^ |

| Now I remember! The design of Saki in this show seemed SO familiar and now I remember where I've seen it before... the character Chihiro from "Spirited Away" by Hayao Miyazaki. I think the animation was done by Masashi Ando.
I wonder if Umino-san studied under Ando-san? (No pun intended!)
Did you know that Chika Umino's name (It's actually her pen name) comes from her favorite location "umi no chikaku no yuuenchi" (æµ·ã?®è¿‘ã??ã?®é?Šåœ’地, lit. an amusement park by the sea), |

| You know, it's been weeks and I'm still wondering why he was naked in ep1. . . anyways.
I thought the 'players' were only given a cellphone with 10 billion dollars(or whatever currency it is). Meh, who knows. . . I might be wrong here. It's still a great series though it's only 11 eps. . . 'anime persons' are gonna scream "Second Season Please!!!(or else. . .)." |

| @8 - everyone starts with the same amount, but I guess there is no rule against making money. All we know is you want to always have at least 1 yen, haha.
::sits and waits calmly for episode 5::... hopefully tomorrow!! |

| | My Latin is a bit rusty too, but if I recall correctly "noblesse oblige" translates more precisely as "nobility obligates" or perhaps "the obligations of nobility." Basically, it means that those who are noble should act in a manner befitting their nobility. In this context of this anime, I would presume it means that if you are to become the "king of human society" you must act in a manner that befits the "king," at least according to whomever is judging that. The phrase and concept have been used to compel and explain the duties of public service held by the nobility since its inception, i.e. holding public office, providing services to the community, serving/leading the military, etc. |

| | What's a good fansub group guys? I'll probably end up archiving this since everyone is saying it's an excellent anime. Heck it even made the retired xenocrisis come out of retirement. |

| This series is AMAZING. Best of the season by far in my opinion. The episodes go by so quickly~ it's so good. The artwork/animation, mix of action/mystery/comedy, everything just comes together so well. I also absolutely love the OP~
Did you know there is going to be a movie to finish the series? It will come out after it finishes airing. |

| #11> gg's subbing it
I've began to realise how weak some parts of the story fits together but... so far the interesting story style has kept me watching...
Just hoped Akira had actually asked Juiz what does "saving the nation" means... |
