Spotlight Preview: Cross Game
Posted on Friday, May 8th 2009 by AJtheFourth

Amidst the swirling rumors of steroids that are sweeping through baseball culture right now, it's hard to forget what pleasure the game can bring you, especially as a child. If you, like me, Staff Writer AJtheFourth, are feeling disheartened, then there's no better series this season to perk up your spirits, about baseball and life, than Cross Game.

So push aside the sordid affairs of A-Rod and 'Manny being Manny.' Like baseball on its best of days, Cross Game has an amazing amount to offer any viewer, even if you're not into sports at all.

Still not convinced? Read this spotlight preview to find out! Thanks for your interest!

This reminds me very much of the mangas "Touch" and "Rough" and "Katsu" also done by Adachi Mitsuru (ã?‚ã? ã?¡å……). I recently started reading Cross Game and must say I do like it, but since it is so similar to his other works mentioned above, I don't have much drive to wait for chapters in order to read them. But as with any manga I like, but not enough to sit and anticipate the next release, I do watch the animes and tend to enjoy that even more. So Cross Game is going to be one of those that I'll look forward to watching, knowing I will enjoy it.

Do you have a day job Chibi-Review-sama? Because between reviews and artwork for a certain lucky bastard teacher, I don't know HOW you do it all and do it so well. Oh, and I am NOT going to comment on your choice of words to berate yourself in #3.

i have always been a big adachi mitsuru fan. I've read and love katsu, rough and h2 (another amazing baseball series). I've been holding off on cross game because the manga is still running, but this might be a good time to start it up.

@4. Sadly (or not, considering I am able to pay my bills) I do have a day job, and am a workaholic. That is addicted to work(ahol). As for doing things well, thank you for the compliment! I try my best, both here and at my day job, hoping that my enthusiasm and excitement will be infectious and recognized. Truth be told, drawing those pictures has been so much fun! Oils are more my medium, so it's been something new and interesting.

@5. I am amazingly surprised that I had yet to hear of him until recently, and, sadly, have never read any of his manga. Now I have at least 4 new titles to add to my 'must read' list. Why did no one tell me about him sooner? Thus far, the Cross Game anime has been nothing short of amazing, and I've heard that the manga is even better. Personally, I'm going to hold off until the series finishes before reading so the show isn't spoiled.

#4 Thank you for listing off Adachi's other works, as I have loved the Cross Game manga and will want to check out his other works when Cross Game is finished. As for the anime, as long as it continues to follow the manga it should be great. My one concern is that the manga is not finished, though it appears to be heading towards the end. Hopefully the manga will finish with just enough time for the anime to not have to come up with its own ending, like FMA 2 is doing (not to say that when this happens the anime-only endings are bad, with good examples being FMA 1 and GTO). As for the animation, sure it looks old but in an anime that is going for a more realistic setting and storyline I think using older forms of animation is better. The background in a baseball anime does not have to be spectacular, it just has to give off that gritty baseball feel.

like #7, I want to thank Jack for listing off Adachi's other manga. I just finished Touch and it was fantastic!

@7, there's the catch isn't it? Even worse than a FMA ending would be endless fillers *shudder* Anyway, the simple animation is growing on me, especially having read some of his manga and understanding his artistic style.
