Favorite Anime of 2009 Survey- Polls Open!
Posted on Friday, January 29th 2010 by AJtheFourth

The time has come today, so hopefully you all had a chance to think long and hard about what anime tickled your fancy in the year 2009. That's right, for the fourth straight year, Anime-Source is pleased to announce that the polls are open for the annual Favorite Anime of the Year Survey! Forge on ahead for details and voting rules.

The Ins and Outs of the Democratic Process:

1. Head on over to the Anime Reviews Database or go to the 2009 Anime List.

2. Click on the series link to view the database synopsis/review page.

3. Click on the bright yellow link that says, 'Vote for top anime of 2009.'

4. You will be prompted to write a short blurb about what you liked about that particular anime. Remember that the top comments get featured for everyone to read! This screen will also remind you of the rules. Once you're finished writing an amazing comment, hit 'send' and this will make your vote final.

5. The next screen will thank you and show you how many votes you have left. Lather, rinse, and repeat until all of your votes are entered.

Rules and Regulations:

*As it has been with previous surveys, members are allowed five votes, non-members are allowed three votes. Make sure you log in before voting to get your maximum number of votes!

*Remember that votes are weighted, so the anime in your number one slot will receive more points than the anime in your number five slot. These are factored into the final tally. You can re-order your votes from the submission screen after you click on an anime to vote for.

*It goes without saying that you shouldn't try to cheat by using multiple computers, etc. You can vote for each anime only once, so vote wisely, and choose your order wisely.

*Any anime series/movie/OVA that began from January 1st 2009 to December 31st 2009 is eligible for this survey. If you know of an anime that you want to vote for but are unable to find it in the database, please leave us a comment here and we will take care of it. Also if you have any questions, feel free to ask by commenting on this article.

*The polls are open from now until February 20th. This gives you some time, not only to pick and choose what anime were truly your favorites, but also gives you a chance to finish up a series or two if you need to.

*As mentioned in the teaser, if you need help remembering some 2009 anime, we have handy preview guides for spring, summer, and fall, along with several spotlights listed here. A comprehensive list of 2009 anime can be found here, and if you’re looking to compare your top shows with other A-Sourcers, there's a thread here.

Happy voting and may the best anime win!

Tentai Senshi Sunred is in the database but I can't vote for it.

Fixed. Sorry about that. It's season two that qualifies for this survey. I just added it so you should be all set.

Voted and done. It's been an odd year with quite a few sequels and original animes, it's going to be really interesting to see which ones reach to the top.

I guess fma is the most popular but the next ones will be very close i guess :)

There is one show that I really want to plug -- RideBack (Winter 2009).
I have just recently watched this series, which I had not heard of throughout all 2009. The only reason I found this anime was because I happened to click on this sites "can you guess the anime?" picture. This was a GREAT show. If anyone has time between now and the closing of the polls, or whenever, I would urge them to give this show a chance (at least check out the reviews posted on this site). It is only 12 episodes long, thus it is a fairly quick watch.

#4 I actually think Eden of the East is going to beat out FMA. K-ON probably 3rd because it appears to be the Moe anime of the year. After that I agree that it will be very close.

#6

Scamp on Saturday, January 30 @
#5 I think it will be a three horse race between FMA, Eden and Bakemonogatari with K-ON and Kimi ni Todoke rounding up the top 5. But yeah, this yea will be a hell of a lot closer than last years totally obvious winner

It will be an intriguing year to vote on considering the change in the industry too on how anime is presented sooner via the net by their own company sites or others. Still it's always fun to vote for these polls, keep up the good work!

Does anyone have a link to the the list of 2009 releases?

The search engine yields thousands of results...

I haven't watched as many 2009 releases as I would have liked, but from what I have seen, Tengen Toppa's 2nd movie, Lagann-hen just kicks ass.

The 2nd "Rebuild of Evangelion You Can (Not) Advance 2.0." is a definite top 5 pick.

I recall you making a list of just the 2009 shows so we could easily remember what qualified for what we were voting for.

I was trying to vote for 'Mahou Sensei Negima: Mou Hitotsu no Sekai,' but the link took me to 'Tokyo Magnitude 8.0.' For now I left my comments for MHnS under 'The Sacred Blacksmith.'

@8, 11- In the above paragraph where it says, 'a comprehensive list of 2009 anime can be found here' is the list of anime for 2009. bluemage also posted the page URL above in their post.

@12- Sorry about that! That link is fixed on the list now. FYI, if you want to vote for a series and you already know the specific name, etc, you can always go to the review database and look it up alphabetically.

#10 Holy shit, I just watched it but it never entered my mind that I could vote for it in this poll.

#15

Terentius on Monday, February 01 @
@14 - You sure can (if it is there)... but we just need to find the entry for it in the database.

@13 - AJ... do you want me to create a new review database entry for [TTGL: Lagann-hen]? I don't really have as many screenshots as I would like for it, so it'll be very bland. Or shall I PM Himitsu about this?

#16

Terentius on Monday, February 01 @
Sorry for the double post... just found the link for TTGL. Many thanks guys :-))

Don't forget Hajime no Ippo 2 and Nodame Cantabile 2. Not my favourites but of course a pretty large group of people like those 2.

HAHAHAHAHAH! I almost.... ALMOST.... complained that "Hatsukoi Limited" wasn't listed for 2009. *Blush* I have to remind myself that some people prefer the Japanese titles and in this case it is listed as "Hatsukoi Gentei". But after looking at the list for 2009, I see a whole lot more anime that I did not watch, let alone give a try. Hmmmmm, I guess finding a cure for bad drivers will have to wait so I can play catch-up with those anime.

I voted Slap-up Party Arad Senki and Axis Powers Hetalia. I couldn't find anything else worthy.

By the way, if you can vote some series over 20 years old that started 1986 (until 1989) namely Dragon Ball Kai, then why can't I vote my favorite series from 1988, the year of my birth, Kikou Ryohei Mellowlink. While we are there, why not let Devilman into this contest? For ilisthur54's sake, they just recolored some frames and booted Hironobu Kageyama's music to promote some techno tracks of controversial quality. Resale does not make it a remake, I think.

Contests like this are always going to reduce to popularity contests. No problem with that except that it would be nicer to find new and unknown quality anime by scrolling through the results. It would be nicer if people went their way and found new series that deserve more attention and shared them with others. The Real Men (or True Fangirls) do not join fanclubs, they FOUND them. But alas, it is time to take my Reality pills. Mm... Actually, the year 2009 was quite decent.

I've already put a few votes, but before other I'd like to think more. SO I'd like to ask anyone for the link to "2009 Anime List".

Sometime in the past I've found it by accident, but somehow I can't seem to find it. Can anyone share the link ?

#26

Kimmie-chan on Monday, February 08 @
@#24>> DB just happened to make its way into the list because it did get a remake and aired under a different name during 2009. I don't know too much about Kikou Ryohei Mellowlink, but if it got a re-make and started air in 2009 then sure it too can go on the vote list.

@#25>> You can find the list again going through the teaser article but it's all good I've the link here

Ok... I'm probably going to sound very ignorant and stupid, but who is that guy standing in the middle in the banner above, wearing a black coat with some kinda chains wrapped around his arm? Which anime is he from? Yeah... I didn't get to watch any animes in 2009 T.T

#30

Lightningcount12 on Thursday, February 11 @
#29: He is Raven from Pandora Hearts. Now maybe you are someone else can tell which anime is on the far right. Really nice banner staff.

#31

anubis56 on Friday, February 12 @
#30: The anime on the far right is actually from a movie called summer wars. It's pretty good too...suprised no one mentioned it as a pick

#32

Naama on Saturday, February 13 @
that was harsh... only 5 can get in... so 07-Ghost couldnt get in my list and so did "Natsu no arashi"..... I hope this year it will be K-on for no.1 they actually made a contribution to the Otaku vocabulery "moe moe kyun" and no one can take it lightly...
